Joel Salvo

As an active performer of new music, cellist Joel Salvo has collaborated with a number of celebrated composers including Bright Sheng, Osvaldo Golijov, and Libby Larson for public performances of their works. Recently, he embarked on an intensive study of contemporary cello repertoire with new music soloist, Anssi Karttunen.


Joel is an Ohio native and was a part of the musical community in Cleveland for many years before venturing to the Twin Cities. He has performed alongside members of the Cleveland Orchestra and Opera Cleveland and has given a live recital broadcast over WCLV Cleveland Classical Radio.

Joel holds degrees from the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music, the Univeristy of Michigan, as well as the University of Minnesota. His teachers include Regina Mushabac, Anthony Elliott, Richard Aaron, and Tanya Remenikova. Currently, Joel is a member of the string faculty at the University of Minnesota, Morris and Anoka Ramsey Community College.
